Ms Cristerna, a former lawyer in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, began tattooing her body after a divorce from a husband she claims was abusive.
The 35 year-old has also undergone dramatic body modifications in the shape of piercings, fangs and most unusually a set of horns underneath the skin on her forehead.
Ms Cristerna says the startling look makes her feel like a warrior, but detractors christened her "Vampire Woman", a term intended as an insult.
However, the crowd-drawing Mexican said the moniker had in fact opened up doors for her.
"I don't dislike it and, in the end, I am thankful for this nickname because, well, I overcame and can pass on my message.
"In other words, that wasn't my purpose. I do like vampires but I didn't want to be one; it was just a fantasy. My transformation is, above everything, a consequence of loving tattoos and body modification," she said.
A mother of three, Ms Cristerna said she hopes to send a message not to judge people by their outward appearance.
"This is simply a pleasure, an image, but what is important is a person's inside and that we shouldn't judge without knowing a person," she said
